About Woodland Signs, Inc.
Signs of Distinction
Founded in 1988 by Mark Cheyne, Woodland Signs has been striving to create “one of a kind” signage for a wide variety of customers. A graduate of St. Mary’s College of Maryland, Mark received his bachelors degree in fine arts.
With a love of the outdoors, much of his time was spent painting watercolors of nature. After a short time out in the mountains of Idaho and Washington, Mark came back east and went to work for a sign company. It was there he got a taste of sandblasted redwood signs and he knew what he wanted to do. With his passion of nature and wildlife, plus the wood working skills he had developed over the years, started Woodland Signs to merge his skills and passion. Materials for exterior signs...
Woodland Signs uses a wide variety of the latest materials available in the sign industry. We pick the best option and finish to manufacture a long lasting and attractive product.
Sandblasted / Carved
Our 3-dimensional signs, which include sandblasted, where the letters are raised, and the background is sandblasted away, or carved, which the letters are incised carved in and the background of the sign is smooth. The two materials we use are cedar or HDU (high density urethane). The cedar, when sandblasted, creates a nice textured surface with the grain forming lines across the background of the sign.
HDU has more of "bronze plaque" surface when sandlblasted and doesn't have the grain of wood. It is for this reason, that I use the HDU for all of my carved signs, since grain isn't an issue.
Both HDU and cedar are long lasting materials and each have their pros and cons. Give us a call and we can discuss which material, best fits your project.
